Auto Accidents

Whether you were involved in a low-speed fender bender or a high-speed collision, it’s vital that you get checked by a chiropractor as soon as possible following the accident. Even if you weren’t going very fast and your car didn’t sustain damage, your body still experienced trauma.

Can’t I Just Wait It Out?

No! Some people think that if they just give their injuries time to heal they don’t need any medical assistance. The sooner you can get in for care, the quicker you can heal and recover. Your body is going to respond better if we remove the pressure off your nervous system as opposed to waiting.

The longer you wait and allow your body to heal with your spine out of alignment (or other affected joint), the harder it will be to treat it properly.

Common Issues We See

Here are some of the different auto accident-related issues for which patients seek our help:

  • Headaches
  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Numbness in the upper extremities
  • Whiplash

When you come in, we will do an initial consultation and exam. We then would take digital X-rays, which we have on-site. After our doctors review the X-rays and determine the best approach to care, they can begin treatment that day.

If you have an attorney, we also will stay in contact with them, sending documentation and letting them know the status of what’s happening. We also can send a copy of your records to your family doctor to keep them in the loop.

I don't have any symptoms after my auto accident. Why do I still need to get checked?

It’s not uncommon for people not to experience any symptoms as a result of an accident for several weeks or even a month after the accident. So it’s important not to just rely on your symptoms. We encourage you to come and get checked just to make sure whether or not there is a problem; don’t wait for symptoms to show up.

Will I be given stretches to do?

Yes, we will provide some gentle stretches for you to do at home. You also can use ice for 20 minutes at a time for at least the first week after the accident. Then about six weeks down the road we will provide some exercises you can do on your own.

How often will I need to come in for care?

Every patient will have a customized care plan. But if you have a mild sprain/strain injury, it is going to take a minimum of four to six weeks to heal. When we do your exam, our doctors will determine the severity of the injury and provide you with an estimated time frame for recovery.

When you're working with a patient, do you ever refer out to other doctors?

If we believe that they can benefit from seeing a specialist, such as a neurosurgeon, for example, we will make a referral. Dr. Graham has an orthopedic group that he sometimes sends patients to.

Will you work with my insurance company?

Yes, in the state of Pennsylvania, auto accident care is covered 100% so there’s no out-of-pocket expense to the patient.
